I did something bad, but it might be the best thing ever: A dahlia chronicles

I did something bad, but it might be the best thing ever: A dahlia chronicles

Today, Tuesday the 20th of January, I did something bad... Well, more so silly...

I tried to move my Cafe Au Lait dahlia to a different position because it wasn't getting enough sun. I grabbed it tightly by its 15cm or so shoots, and pulled... It didn't take long for all of the shoots to completely snap off, leaving me standing there with a handful of potential dinner plate sized blooms and a dropped jaw.

I frantically searched for any information that could make me feel better and allowed me to tell myself "see, it's not that bad", and alas... I found that information.

I found out that avid flower farms often will cut dahlia shoots from their tubers once they have sprouted to between 5 and 10cm, dip them in rooting hormone and transplant them into soil to increase their plant numbers. Turns out, unbeknownst to me, I had just potentially quadrupled my cafe au lait blooms for the season....

So, I am tagging you along with me to find out whether my accidental dicapitation will result in amazing blooms in multiple spots in the garden. I will check back in with you in 2 weeks to let you know how they're going.

Much love,
Sophia
